you see something beautiful in me

i just read yesterday's paper, a specifically interesting article about liberia. and it absolutely blew me away. and not in a good sense. the whole story was about this guy named william flomo, who used to be a child soldier. the story absolutely broke my heart, you can read it here. [that's a link] his continued struggle to have faith in God made me want to break down and cry. our world is so screwed up, so broken, and we don't even know the half of it. we sit here in our air-conditioned homes with more food than we need, and clothes abounding to put on our backs. we never worry about how we're going to eat the next day, or where we're going to lay our heads down at night. the point of view that this article was written from disgusted me. they make these people seem like animals. it's very subtle, but terribly demeaning. and then, after you hear all the bad things about liberia, you don't even get information on anything you can do to help. WHICH IS MESSED UP. you can't just throw a ton of information at us, and then not back it up with anything we can do to make a difference.

God i pray that right now you would invade liberia. God, that you would come with love, and PEACE abounding more than ever before. comfort the hearts of your people. send healing, Lord, in every area of their lives, physical and emotional. turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers. unify them like they've never been unified before. Jesus, show them your face. i ask that you would send a wave of CHANGE for this country, that it would become a country solely for you. re-invent them. give us ways to help them, Lord. prove to their hearts that you are real, and that you care. give them a way out of war and destruction. teach them the ways of peace, Jesus.

Wonderful to see you begin to embrace Liberia.

In addition to the atrocity of soldier children, most of them are forced to serve as sex slaves and/or laborers.

It is incredibly important to be aware of the world we live in. Beyond awareness, we need to be dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world.

We are called to stand with victims and activists to prevent discrimination, to uphold political freedom, to protect people from inhumane conduct, and to bring offenders to justice.

We should support organizations that investigate and expose human rights violations and hold abusers accountable.

Firstly, you can pray daily for Liberia, beyond that, there are reputable organizations that successfully reintegrate victims back into Liberian society. Pray for them also.

Love your heart.
